Jets rookie QB Jordan Travis calls learning from Aaron Rodgers 'a blessing'

Aaron Rodgers is the New York Jets' starting quarterback and Tyrod Taylor is locked in as the backup, but the team decided to add depth to the position. In fact, they may have drafted a future QB1 in Florida State's Jordan Travis.

Travis was drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday afternoon. He would have gone much higher if it wasn't for suffering a broken leg last season. Travis threw for 20 touchdown passes and only two interceptions last season before his injury. 

The 6-foot-1, 212-pound dual-threat quarterback played five seasons at Florida State and had the most overall touchdowns in program history with 97 and the most yards in total offense with 10,553.

"I'm a playmaker. That's the main thing," Travis said. "I make plays when everything breaks down. I'm just a baller. I'm a competitor. Every single time I get on the field, I want to dominate the guy across from me. And I'm a winner. I mean, that's the main thing for me is throughout my career, I fell in love with winning so much and I hate losing."

Travis will get to learn firsthand from a future Hall of Famer who also hates to lose. Travis, who's now 23, has admired Rodgers since the days of his youth. 

"I love watching Aaron Rodgers, ever since I was a little boy," Travis said. "He's one of my brother's favorite quarterbacks, so I've always watched him. To have an opportunity to go work with him and just learn from him is such a blessing."

Jets general manager Joe Douglas called Travis a "special guy" and a player "you can see why teammates gravitate towards."

"Really cool opportunity for him to learn, develop, and just showcase his ability," Douglas said.

Travis isn't expected to receive meaningful snaps anytime soon, as the main goals right now for him are to recover completely from his leg injury and then improve while watching veterans like Rodgers and Taylor. 

The fifth round was excellent value for a player with as much upside as Travis, but it's hard telling if and when he'll receive significant snaps. He'll have to work his way up from being QB3, but don't count him out.
