Kyle Larson wrecks late in Goodyear 400 at Darlington
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

A massive moment for Kyle Larson! Racing all day in the top-five of the field, Larson lost control late at Darlington. This NASCAR race is getting interesting as things wind down in the Goodyear 400.

Kyle Larson was great all day. He was fast. One of the top drivers in the field. Late in the race as these cars were getting out of shape and being more difficult to handle, he just lost it.

A flat tire and the next thing you know, Larson was in the wall. It was tough seeing that great Terry Labonte throwback get all torn up like this.

Kyle Larson was one of the favorites coming into the weekend for good reason. He is great on the intermediate tracks, he won the Southern 500 last year, and he was starting near the front of today’s Goodyear 400.

All of that and more made Larson an early favorite. His car just couldn’t make it after cutting a tire and getting into the wall. This was just one of those incidents on track that you can’t control. Before Larson blew a tire other drivers were getting into the wall as well.

You just hate to see a pretty race car like that get damaged. However, we have a battle for the lead that is well worth it to end this race. Things are heating up at Darlington.

Kyle Larson runs out of luck

After his narrow victory at Kansas last week, it appears that Kyle Larson ran out of luck. This season he has done a much better job avoiding DNFs. That is until today. Compared to his 2023 season, he has been a lot more clean this season.

A small incident like today won’t derail what has been a great season so far. He is actually on pace with his 2021 championship season, for the most part, to start the year. Now that the season is really into the meat and potatoes of the season each race means a little bit more.

Larson already has two wins this season. That’s going to be comforting after a DNF at Darlington. At this point, he is going to turn his attention to IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500. He has practice coming up this week.

Kyle Larson is out of the race now, but he will be back up in the front next time he hits the track. There isn’t much that can keep him from being in the top-10 week in and week out.
